Clean Up Day
The children worked so hard today weeding, cleaning, and painting. They did a tremendous job, and the school grounds are looking fantastic as a result. To cool down after all their hard work, everyone enjoyed an ice pop treat. Well done to all involved! 🌟🍦🌿🎨
Quiz Night
The Parents’ Association organised an incredible Quiz Night in the Westgrove Hotel for both adults and children. It was a fantastic evening with a packed room and a wonderful atmosphere throughout. Philip Mudge and Glen Reddin did an outstanding job as quiz masters, keeping everyone entertained and engaged from start to finish. The event raised a significant amount of money, which will go towards the purchase of new playground equipment for the children. A huge thank you to the PA, parents, children and staff whose support and hard work made the night such a tremendous success.
Causey Farm
Infants to 2nd Class set off to Causey Farm for their school tour and had an incredible day. From meeting the animals to taking part in a variety of hands-on activities, the children thoroughly enjoyed every minute of their visit. It was a fun-filled day full of learning, laughter and wonderful memories.
Motus Wellbeing Workshop
5th and 6th Class took part in a full-day Emotional Resilience Workshop with Lizzy from Motus Learning. The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and were highly engaged throughout the day. The workshop provided valuable strategies to help them build resilience, develop positive coping skills and support their emotional wellbeing.
Tesco Cooks
3rd to 6th Class are so grateful for the amazing day they had cooking delicious vegetable pasta. We have many budding chefs in our midst! 🍝👩🍳👨🍳

Halverstown Cricket Tournament
We are so proud of all our 5th and 6th Class pupils who took part in the Halverstown Cricket Tournament. The team played brilliantly throughout the day and were in the lead right up until the final few minutes of the competition.
They had a fantastic day out, and it was wonderful to have the rest of their classmates there to cheer them on and support them.

Diocesan Service for Schools
5th and 6th Class recently attended the Diocesan Service in Tullamore Church. During the service, we learned all about Habitat for Humanity and the wonderful work they do to support communities and families around the world. It was a lovely opportunity for schools across the diocese to come together in song and worship.
Water Safety
Infants to 4th Class recently took part in a Water Safety webinar, where they learned about how to stay safe near water during the summer months. The pupils really enjoyed the interactive session and gained valuable knowledge about staying safe at the beach, rivers, lakes, and swimming pools.

We were delighted to welcome the fire brigade to our school today to teach us about the importance of fire safety in the home 🚒🔥
They popped in to say hello to our junior classes and then delivered an engaging fire safety programme with 3rd and 4th class. A fantastic and informative visit for all involved!

KPMG
We were delighted to welcome representatives from KPMG to our school, who spoke with our 5th and 6th class pupils about the upcoming Irish Women’s Open Championship, taking place at the end of August in the K Club.
The visit was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn more about this prestigious sporting event. The KPMG team very kindly gifted each pupil a new cap, which was greatly appreciated.
A real highlight of the day was when the children got the chance to see—and even hold—the winning trophy, creating a memorable experience for all involved.
Readathon
We are so proud of all the children of Hewetson NS who took part in our school Readathon. Everyone made a fantastic effort to read as many books as possible. It was wonderful to see so many children engrossed in their reading and heading off on magical adventures through books.
Every child received a participation prize, and Mrs. Elliott announced the overall winners during assembly. We also managed to raise an incredible €460 for the school—an amazing achievement!

🎬Drama Night🎤
All the children in Hewetson NS took to the stage and truly blew us away. The infants opened the night with A Squash and a Squeeze, followed by 1st and 2nd Class performing Tatty Boggle. 3rd and 4th Class delighted the audience with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and 5th and 6th Class brought the evening to a fantastic close with Holes.
The children were incredible, and we couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of them. A massive thank you to all the staff for making such a memorable and special night possible.

Postal Bible Prize Giving
We were delighted to host the Postal Bible Prize Giving in Hewetson today. We had great fun singing, listening to Bible stories, and playing games together. The children were then awarded beautiful prizes. It was a lovely occasion for everyone involved.

World Book Day 📚
We had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day in school today. The children made a wonderful effort with their costumes and it was lovely to see so many different book characters and favourite books around the school. It was great to see the children’s enthusiasm for reading and everyone had great fun throughout the day.

Our Junior Infants to 2nd Class pupils have started Playball and they are having such great fun! As they play, they are further developing their movement skills, coordination, teamwork, and confidence.

Friendship Fortnight
We had great fun in Hewetson NS today playing a co-operative game in our buddy groups.
We kicked off Friendship Fortnight by meeting our new buddies and coming together to complete a “Get to Know Me” activity. There was great excitement, and the children are really looking forward to coming together again tomorrow.
Hewetson NS is getting active!
Our Active School Committee has ensured that we are up and moving every day. From 19th January, we began taking part in the Croke Park Movement Breaks – Active Breaks Challenge 2026, supported by the GAA.
Each Tuesday morning, the Active School Committee brings the whole school together to lead a school-wide workout. When the weather doesn’t cooperate, committee members divide up and lead workouts in individual classrooms instead.
Everyone is really enjoying the extra movement and energy throughout the day! A big thank you to Ms Hennessy and Ms Bannister for coordinating the Active School Committee and supporting this fantastic initiative.
Budding Authors
Three pupils from third class created their own picture book. This book is all about how to be kind and include everyone. They did a super job at reading their book to the junior classes. We can't wait to put it into our new library.

Tree Planting Day
We are so greatful to Coill na nÓg for supplying us with beautiful trees to plant in our amazing school grounds. We have all loved learning about trees and what they need to grow. We can't wait to watch these beautiful trees grow over time.
Christmas Fair
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone for making the Christmas Fair such a fantastic success. We are unbelievably proud of 5th and 6th Class for putting together this wonderful event. It was very clear today that we have many budding entrepreneurs and salespeople among our pupils! They have been planning and working behind the scenes for weeks.
None of this would have been possible without their wonderful teachers and additional needs assistant—Mrs. Milsom, Ms. Bannister, and Carol. I want to give a particularly massive thank you to Carol, whose work was truly invaluable. She took on the responsibility of handling the money, organising the raffle, decorating, and coordinating so many aspects of the day.
We also want to express our sincere gratitude to our new PA and all the volunteers who were helping from early this morning. Several PA members have spent weeks sourcing donations and prizes. We are very grateful for the generous support of Londis, Lidl, Aldi, Dunnes, Bob and Kate, and Tesco.
There was a wonderful buzz and excitement in the air from start to finish. We are thrilled to let you know that an incredible €2,700 was raised—such a fantastic achievement for our school community! This will go towards funding new playground equipment.
Christmas Quiz
Six groups of pupils took part in a Christmas Quiz in Scoil Linbh Íosa in aid of St. Vincent de Paul. The students enjoyed a wonderful night filled with fun, teamwork, and festive spirit. Their participation helped support the important work of St. Vincent de Paul in the local community.
Librarians Came to Visit
On 26th November, two lovely librarians, Carl and Charlotte, from Kildare Library Services visited the school.
They told the children all about the wonderful free services available — and even gifted us some free books!
Scholastic Book Fair
Today, the children enjoyed a special “Look and See” session where they had the chance to browse through the wide selection of books on offer. Each child created a Wish List of the books that caught their eye and may be of interest to them.
We look forward to the excitement the Book Fair will bring over the coming days and appreciate your support in fostering a love of reading in our school.
Goodbye, Mrs Lamb
We said an emotional goodbye to Mrs. Lamb. Mrs. Lamb and her family have been part of the Hewetson School community for the past five years, and we can’t thank her enough for all the support and care she has given the children, parents, and staff. We wish her every happiness in the next exciting chapter of her life. As we like to say, it’s not goodbye — it’s see you later.
Shoebox Appeal
A massive thank you to all the children and parents who made up Christmas Shoeboxes for the Team Hope Appeal. Over 50 shoeboxes were collected from Hewetson NS today 🎁
The children are really enjoying all the experimenting and investigating for Science Week.
Skip Around The World
All the pupils in Hewetson NS are taking part in the three week skipping challenge. We are trying to see how far we can skip. We will keep you all updated on our progress.
Lego Club
One of our 5th class pupil has set up a Lego Club at lunch time. All the children are really enjoying the new club :)
Food Dudes
We have all been taking part in 'Food Dudes'. We've really enjoyed tasting all the different types of fruit and vegetables. We are trying to increase how much fruit and vegetables we eat to keep us healthy. Infants had a visitor from Food Dudes to tell them all about the programme.
🎃Halloween Movie Night 🎃
We were all so excited to come to school at night for our Halloween movie night. The student council picked two movies and made up yummy treat bags for everyone to enjoy while watching their movie. A big thanks to all the teachers for organising the event and being there with us on the night😃🎃
🎃Halloween Bake Sale 🎃
5th and 6th class organised a super spooky Halloween bake sale. The school set to work on baking and creating delicious cakes and treats. They raised nearly €600 and we all had a great time going to buy our goodies. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir.
Maths Week
The children were delighted with the new sports equipment. A big thanks to Mrs. Milsom for sourcing and purchasing all the new equipment.
DIY SOS Day
I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to all our amazing parents, children, and staff, for coming together to make our DIY SOS Day such a fantastic success. Thanks to your incredible efforts, we accomplished so much to create a safer and more beautiful environment for all the children.
It was truly wonderful to see everyone working side by side, and the positive energy and great buzz from start to finish made the day even more special. Beyond the hard work, it was also a fantastic opportunity to get to know one another better and strengthen our community spirit.
We couldn’t have done it without all the enthusiasm, support, and teamwork. Here’s to many more days like this!
