September News from the 5th and 6th Classroom
We are delighted to be back and settling into our new classroom. It’s great to see our old friends and to welcome two new friends, Martyna and Ryan to our school .
During the month of September, we have been learning all about Greece. We have been reading Greek Mythology and learning about the Greek gods in History. We’ve been studying the geography of Greece and reading and writing fables and myths in English. We’ve also been getting creative, creating our own mythical creature , drawing Greek vases and creating mosaics.
In science and music, we’ve been investigating sound and how we hear. We have made our own musical instruments as a homework project and presented them to the class.
We have been investigating pitch and the different families of musical instruments.
We are spending lots of time outdoors , doing outdoor lessons in English , Science and Maths. We’re also getting lots of exercise. We love to Run Around Europe (Wednesday mornings) and look forward to our Circuit and Stretching and Mobility classes (each morning) and really enjoyed our ice-cream treat from Miss Morgan after all our activity.
Finally, we would like to thank Revd. Phillip Heak for the lovely assemblies that he has kindly recorded for our School.
Maths Week in the 5th and 6th Classroom
As well as engaging in our daily maths activities we undertook challenges from the www.mathsweek.ie . We gave our brains a good workout and focused on problem solving and puzzles such The Handshake Puzzle, The Honeycomb Puzzle, The World Cup Puzzle, and tackled problems such as How Many Siblings? and Space Mission. We were overall very successful at solving these with great solutions from Ryan and Saul and other class members. To practice our numeracy skills, we enjoyed playing Number Countdown and Noggle online. In Art we drew symmetrical Sugar Skulls for Día de Muertos and discussed pattern in Nature and in Art.
