Welcome to 5th and 6th Class
Class Teacher: Mrs Milsom
Students in 5th and 6th can look forward to two years jam packed with learning and activities as they get ready for secondary school.
The following is an outline of some of the educational activities we undertake during the year:
Writing skills

Composing and reciting poetry
A huge variety of Arts and Crafts

Cluichí Cainte as Gaeilge
History / Geography and Science projects
A variety of sports activities – including guest coaches

5th/6th enjoyed a very interesting trip to the Dáil this week. We had a guided tour of Leinster House and heard its history, observed Dáil business, saw some TDs, visited The Senad - Hewetson School even got a mention on Oireachtas TV!
Afterwards we visited The National Gallery to see paintings by Irish artists.
5th/6th
This month we have been learning Sports and Pastimes in Gaeilge. In Maths we did Length. We measured lots of things outside and inside the classroom.
In English we wrote reports about mountains , Artic and Antarctic. In Geography we are doing Artic and Antarctic. Our English and Geography are linked.
In PE we have just finished our swimming lessons in K Leisure.
In Art we did perspective Art. See our pictures below.
We are continuing guitar lessons with Music Generation every Tuesday.
For St Brigid’s Day linked into the live service from St Bridgid’s Cathedral and as Gaeilge, léigheamar scéal Naomh Bríd.
We had a Valentines bake sale that was very successful. We raised over €400. We used some of the money for our 6th class hoodies and some will be used for a trip to the Oireachtas in Dublin.
We have been working hard on our school play, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We have been designing our props and backdrops.
We started a new novel, ‘ Under the Hawthorn Tree’
In science we have been learning about light and heat . We did an experiment to test conductors and insulators.
In History we have been reading about another strong woman in Irish history – Grace O’ Malley.
For internet safety day w watched a video called ‘A wolf in sheep’s clothing’ and learned the five principles of internet safety. We did an interactive quiz on Quizziz on our Chromebooks.
