Welcome to Hewetson National School

Hewetson National School is a co-educational school under Church of Ireland management standing on a three acre site about 1 kilometre outside Clane on the Millicent Road.

It was built on this site in 1805 after the closure of Betaghstown School when it amalgamated with the Church of Ireland School in Clane.

Our school has been remodelled to accommodate our pupils' modern educational needs. Classes go from Junior Infants to Sixth Class and pupils range in age from four to thirteen years. We have four Classroom Teachers and one Special Education Teacher.

Hewetson School News June 2024

We are well into our summer term now looking forward to the holidays. Well done to families who supported Our Shoes For You appeal, we collected 60 pairs of sport shoes for children in Africa.

5th and 6th class had a fun and informative visit to the Dáil and Seanad, kindly organised by a parent. We also visited the National Gallery. 5th and 6th were very successful with their Junior Entrepreneur project called Recycimals. They made soft toys from donated clothes and made over €350. Congratulations to children from Hewetson who were confirmed recently.

All classes went on their school tour on 27th of May. Infants to first class visited Lullymore , 3rd to 6th visited Russborough Activity Centre and Maze. We had lovely weather and a great day.

5th and 6th classes attended the Diocesan Youth Service in Kildare Cathedral on the 21st of May and enjoyed participating in the lively music. Luke Hawkins visited us for a regular assembly on the 30th of May. We wish him all the best in his new position as Diocesan Youth Officer and are delighted he will be with us on the 20th of June for our 6th class Graduation Service.

We had a visit from our new community Garda , who visited all classes and spoke in particular to 5th and 6th about internet safety and alcohol, vaping/smoking and drugs awareness.

We are looking forward to more fun activities before the term ends including a visiting cricket coach, sports day and Music Generation concerts in drumming, ukulele and guitar to show off what we have been learning to our families.

All classes had 8/10 weeks of Gaelic football coaching, from Brian, our GAA coach. This is a great opportunity, and we appreciate Brian’s enthusiasm and support. He has volunteered to be here on Sports Day.
