🎬Drama Night🎤
All the children in Hewetson NS took to the stage and truly blew us away. The infants opened the night with A Squash and a Squeeze, followed by 1st and 2nd Class performing Tatty Boggle. 3rd and 4th Class delighted the audience with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and 5th and 6th Class brought the evening to a fantastic close with Holes.
The children were incredible, and we couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of them. A massive thank you to all the staff for making such a memorable and special night possible.
Seachtain na Gaeilge i Hewetson NS
Bhí Seachtain na Gaeilge iontach againn i Hewetson NS. Ghlac na páistí páirt i réimse leathan gníomhaíochtaí spraíúla, lena n-áirítear Céilí, Tráth na gCeist, Tóir Focal, Ceolchoirm, cluichí Gaeilge, pictiúrlann Gaeilge agus Lá Glas.
Chruthaigh na daltaí Balla Focal sa scoil agus chaith siad am ag léamh as Gaeilge, ag éisteacht le filíocht agus ceol Gaeilge, agus ag úsáid na Gaeilge ina gcuid gníomhaíochtaí laethúla.
Bhain gach duine sár-taitneamh as na himeachtaí agus bhí sé iontach an Ghaeilge agus ár gcultúr a cheiliúradh le chéile sa scoil.
🏐 Playball Fun! 🎉
Our Junior Infants to 2nd Class pupils have started Playball and they are having such great fun! As they play, they are further developing their movement skills, coordination, teamwork, and confidence.
It’s wonderful to see so many happy, active faces enjoying every session!
Friendship Fortnight
We celebrated Friendship Fortnight, for the first two weeks in February. It was kindly organised by Mrs. Elliott and the Student Council. The fortnight was all about promoting kindness, inclusion, respect and teamwork throughout our school.
Classes took part in a variety of activities that encouraged pupils to think about what makes a good friend and how we can show care and support to others. There were discussions, art activities, co-operative games, board games, buddy time and special assemblies focused on the importance of friendship.
It was a lovely opportunity for everyone to strengthen old friendships, make new ones and remember that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
Well done to Mrs. Elliott and the Student Council for organising such a positive and meaningful fortnight for our school community! 💛
Buddy Reading
Every Friday, we come together with our buddy classes to spend time reading and discussing our books. Buddy Reading provides a wonderful opportunity for pupils to develop their reading skills, build confidence, and foster positive relationships across class levels. Older pupils support and encourage younger readers, while everyone enjoys sharing stories and talking about what they have read. It is always a highlight of our week in Hewetson NS.
Rugby
Pupils in 3rd to 6th Class are very lucky to take part in rugby coaching each week with Coach Leo. During these sessions, the children are developing their skills, learning the rules of the game and improving their teamwork.
Coach Leo focuses on building confidence, fitness and cooperation, while ensuring that everyone enjoys being active and involved. It is a fantastic opportunity for the pupils to learn new skills and grow in their love of sport.
We really appreciate the time and effort Coach Leo puts into coaching each week! 🏉
Junior Achievement Ireland- Energize
5th and 6th Class are really enjoying participating in the Energize programme.
Junior Achievement Ireland- Our Community
1st and 2nd class really enjoyed completing the 'Our Community' Junior Achievement Programme with an outside volunteer, Silvia Galupo
Hewetson NS is getting active!
Our Active School Committee has ensured that we are up and moving every day. From 19th January, we began taking part in the Croke Park Movement Breaks – Active Breaks Challenge 2026, supported by the GAA.
Each Tuesday morning, the Active School Committee brings the whole school together to lead a school-wide workout. When the weather doesn’t cooperate, committee members divide up and lead workouts in individual classrooms instead.
Everyone is really enjoying the extra movement and energy throughout the day! A big thank you to Ms Hennessy and Ms Bannister for coordinating the Active School Committee and supporting this fantastic initiative.
Skip Around the World
The Skip Around the World Challenge is a fun, active initiative designed to encourage children to get moving, stay healthy, and enjoy skipping as part of daily physical activity.
What the Challenge Involves
Each class or child skips daily—either during PE, break times, or short activity breaks.
Every skip counts! Skips are added together to help the school “travel” around a map of the world.
Classes record their progress and see how far they can “travel,” visiting different countries and continents as they build up their skip totals.
Lunch Time Clubs
Some of the pupils have been coming up with their own ideas for clubs that we could run during lunch time. At the moment we have a lego club and arts and crafts taking place in the yard during lunch.
Food Dudes
Food Dudes is a healthy eating programme designed for primary school children in Ireland. Its aim is to encourage children to eat more fruit and vegetables, try new foods, and develop long-lasting healthy habits.
How the Programme Works
Food Dudes uses a combination of:
Tasting: Children are given small portions of fruit and vegetables to try in school.
Role Models: The “Food Dudes” are a group of fun, superhero-style characters who love eating fruit and veg. Children are encouraged to “eat like the Food Dudes.”
Rewards: Pupils receive small rewards (stickers, pencils, certificates) when they taste or finish their fruit and vegetables.
Repetition: By offering fruit and veg regularly, the programme helps children get used to the taste and build routine healthy eating habits.
Science Week
We love to investigate and experiment in Hewetson NS.
Maths Week
Music Generation
🎵 Music at Hewetson! 🎵
We are so lucky to have two wonderful music teachers visit us each week!
Carrie works with our infants, who are currently exploring song singing and composing using a variety of instruments.
First and Second Class are learning how to drum with Luke, while Third and Fourth Class are enjoying ukulele lessons. Luke finishes his day with Fifth and Sixth Class, where the students are learning to play a range of different instruments.
It’s wonderful to see — and hear — all the music happening around our school. We’re really looking forward to sharing our talents and performing for the whole school community later in the year! 😃
🏐 GAA with Brian! 🏐
Every Thursday, Brian comes in to coach 5th and 6th Class. The pupils are developing their GAA skills and learning the importance of teamwork.
Throughout the year, Brian will also be working with the other classes, helping everyone build their confidence and have fun through sport!
